Here Is the Wetland by Madeleine Dunphy

By Madeleine Dunphy

The wetland is a murky, wet, and mysterious international. Atop its glittering floor and underneath its shadowy depths, birds, bass, minks, and muskrats fight to outlive and flourish. Madeleine Dunphy’s lyrical prose indicates the relationships among the wetland’s crops and animals, giving younger readers a transparent photograph of ways each one dwelling creature relies on the others for survival. Illustrator Wayne McLoughlin provides beautiful visuals,  with luminous, specific work that show the delicate good looks and complexity of this significantly vital ecological community.

By holding water like sponges, wetlands help to control flooding and prevent soil erosion. Many of our food sources also come from wetlands.
